IAAPS engineers have reached a significant breakthrough, having successfully run an automotive Internal Combustion Engine on hydrogen for the first time. This was possible through the utilisation of green hydrogen generated by IAAPS’ own in-house green H2 power plant.
A Technology Innovation Partnership for Net Zero Aviation in the South West has been launched. Focused on delivering transformational innovation to advance net zero flight, the founding partners are the National Composites Centre (NCC), advanced propulsion R&I centre IAAPS, and the Universities of Bristol and Bath.
IAAPS will be once again attending the Low Carbon Vehicle Show (LCV), taking place on the 6th and 7th September at Millbrook Proving Ground in Milton Keynes.
IAAPS’ green hydrogen production and storage facility, the first of its kind in the South West of England, is nearing completion following the successful delivery and installation of a new polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyser and hydrogen storage tank.
IAAPS has appointed Sierra CP Engineering to design and deliver the installation of four high-tech hydrogen fuel compliant test cells at its state-of-the-art centre at the Bristol & Bath Science Park. The move will substantially increase IAAPS’ research and innovation capabilities to safely develop new hydrogen fuel technologies, supporting the wider mobility sector from fundamental research to new product introduction.
The University of Bath / IAAPS have been selected as strategic partners in a £12.7m APC (Advanced Propulsion Centre) funded venture which aims to make clean hydrogen buses a reality and is projected to not only support almost 500 jobs over the next ten years, but also provide CO2 savings of 5.9m tonnes.
The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, John Glen MP, paid IAAPS a visit during a tour of some of the most innovative enterprises and institutions in the South West of England. He was joined by Toby Savage, Leader of South Gloucestershire Council, Alka Graham and Rachael Hunt, local Emersons Green councillors, as well as John Wilkinson, Director of the Western Gateway.
A new £1.4 million project to develop game-changing hydrogen-powered electric aircraft is set to begin at the University of Bath / IAAPS. Renowned researcher Dr Xiaoze Pei, Director of Research Quality at IAAPS, is aiming to develop new power systems that will help to reduce the environmental impact of air travel, after being awarded a prestigious five-year EPSRC Open Fellowship.
IAAPS is pleased to announce it has become a full member of Hydrogen South West (HSW), an industry-led association committed to accelerating the South West’s hydrogen economy.
